Starting the servers
Backend (API on port 8000)
Always use the project virtual environment's Python — not the system Python.
cd backend venv/Scripts/python.exe -m uvicorn app.main:app --host 0.0.0.0 --port 8000
Frontend (app on port 3000)
cd frontend npm run dev
After changing backend code
next.config, restart the frontend manually — config changes are not hot-reloaded.Logging in
- 1
Open the app
Go tohttp://localhost:3000. You'll land on the login screen. - 2
Use 1-Click Demo or sign in
Click Try Demo — 1 Click Access to enter instantly with sample data, or enter your email and password and press Sign In. - 3
You arrive at the Dashboard
On success you're routed to the dashboard. If your account has no organization yet, you're sent to onboarding instead.
Demo credentials
demo@rapidledger.in · Password demo1234. The demo opens on the fully reconciled organization so every report is Excel-matched out of the box.Organizations & multi-tenancy
RapidLedger is multi-tenant: one user account can belong to several organizations (tenants). The active organization determines which data every page and report shows.
- Your active organization is set at login from your membership and stored locally for the session.
- All API calls are scoped to the active tenant — you only ever see data you have access to.
- Switching organizations re-scopes the whole app; reports refresh against the new tenant's books.

Onboarding a new organization
At /onboarding you choose Start Fresh — Guided Setup or Import from Tally / Zoho. A fresh org continues into the guided wizard; imports keep their own path (and skip the wizard since they already have data).
Guided setup wizard (industry-first)
- 1
Pick your industry & sub-type
Trading, Manufacturing, Services, Retail, E-commerce or Construction — then a sub-type (e.g. Manufacturing → Food processing / Pharma). A free-text box lets you describe exactly what you do. This pre-configures modules and tailors the chart of accounts. - 2
Financial preferences
Currency, fiscal-year start, decimal places, rounding, date format, reporting standard (Schedule III / Ind AS / IFRS), and cash vs accrual. - 3
Choose modules
Pre-selected from your industry (inventory, GST, payroll, projects, manufacturing, bank-recon). Only enabled modules show in the sidebar. - 4
Chart of Accounts
A GST-rate-wise chart is generated; click Review with AI for suggested missing ledgers, then Apply. - 5
Import opening balances
Optionally load opening balances and stock via the Opening Balances screen or Tally sync.
Next steps
- Record your first transaction — see the How-To Guides.
